The Truth About Teacups! There is a lot of debate about Teacup Puppies. This is my experience and opinion about Teacup Puppies. The adult size is 4.8 lbs or less as an adult, and, of course, they do not fit into a “teacup”. They are healthy dogs as their genetics were designed to be small, and mom and dad, and generations back are small. These dogs generally live 12-15 years maybe longer and have good health. A tiny puppy born to big parents is not a Teacup, but a “runt” and is normally not a healthy puppy and may not live a long life. The ideal size in my opinion for a Teacup as an adult is 3-4lbs. If you get a teacup that is smaller than 3lbs they generally will need extra TLC due to their small size, such as Nutrical or babyfood with waffle syrup as a treat 2-3 times a day. I do not recommend Teacup puppies for any family that has small children, or for families that work long hours and are away from home long periods of time. You see there are breeds who have a gene that stunts the size of the dog, and there are runts. Take the poodle for instants, they have teacup poodles, that are just the smaller variation of the toy poodle, perfectly healthy, but cannot be bred. Why cant they be bred? Well they do not have the many generations behind them supporting that gene. Also you must be careful that you do not buy a runt, lots of breeders well sell a runt as a teacup. always ask the parents size. A true teacup has generations of the smaller structured genes along the blood line. They are just as healthy as the big ones. but of course sense they are smaller they can easy get hurt if stepped on, or played ruffly, These are not dogs for young children. Now what about the Micro? The micro is 3 and under. and again, please make sure you do not buy a runt! Runt do tend to have alot of health problems, and sometimes can catch up in growth any how. Past Puppies
